We need our union, the App Drivers Union, because drivers are stronger when we are united. United we bargain, divided we beg. We will no longer beg the companies for scraps. We make the companies their money, and we are organizing to demand what we deserve.

The App Drivers Union is winning in Massachusetts and we will win in New Jersey too.

NJ Drivers: Here are Steps We Must Take to WIN:

WIN UNION RIGHTS AKA “COLLECTIVE BARGAINING RIGHTS” IN NJ. What does this mean?
Drivers do not currently have official union rights in NJ. ADU, 32BJ SEIU, and IAM are fighting to pass legislation in Trenton to secure union rights or “collective bargaining rights” for drivers. Massachusetts, California, and Illinois drivers won their union rights all while keeping their independence and flexibility. NJ can win our union rights too; we just have to fight for it.

SIGN CARDS/BUILD THE UNION. What does this mean?
While we fight to win our union rights through legislation, we must show our strong support for the union by signing union authorization cards. We must also protect our jobs by fighting against bad legislation like Waymos and other autonomous-vehicle measures that threaten to put thousands of drivers out of work.

WIN UNION RECOGNITION. What does this mean?
Once we win our union rights in the legislature, we will file with enough cards to officially win union recognition. This is important because once we win recognition, the app companies will be legally required to sit down with us and bargain a contract.

WIN A STRONG UNION CONTRACT. What does this mean?
Collective bargaining means we, as drivers, have a seat at the table with the companies to negotiate a fair contract. Our bargaining committee negotiates our contract with the companies. This is how we take control and improve our jobs. Our union contract is how we win more money, protection from deactivation, and benefits. Remember, a boss’s promises are temporary; a union contract is in writing!
Massachusetts drivers are currently at the bargaining table negotiating the first-ever union contract for rideshare drivers in the United States! New Jersey could be next.
