We have some good news about the back pay checks from the Massachusetts Attorney General (AG) settlement with Uber/Lyft. The letter and email detailing the amount in the checks and confirming your mailing addresses will start to arrive as early as this Friday, August 1st. Back pay checks will arrive soon after.
The App Drivers Union (ADU) has met with the Attorney General’s office to push for a back pay settlement that is fast and fair. In June, App Drivers Union driver leaders met with the AG to demand answers on the settlement. Then the App Drivers Union brought the AG’s Office to talk to over 1,000 Drivers on Zoom. App Drivers Union drivers urged the AG to take immediate action.
The AG listened.
We are happy to report that ADU drivers pushing for the AG’s office to move faster have succeeded. The process is finally starting. Here is some more detail:
-
- The first communication will be a letter and email, and will come from Rust Consulting, the settlement administrator, starting as early as the end of this week, Friday. The letter and email will specify the amount of back pay you will receive and also request that you confirm your mailing address by August 31. IF YOU DON’T RECEIVE A LETTER AND BELIEVE THAT YOU SHOULD, you should contact Rust Consulting beginning August 1st when their hotline will be open: (888) 562-1052. Keep track of the time and date that you called. For more info check out the AG website.
- Soon after you receive the letter, you will receive your check from Rust Consulting in the mail. It will be a paper check. The back pay you are owed from both Uber and Lyft will be combined in one check. Drivers do not have to apply for the checks. You do not need a private lawyer trying to make money off of your settlement money. Drivers should never give their banking or any personal information to anyone claiming to help you with the settlement.
- There is a total of at least $140 million in back pay for drivers who drove in the period July 14, 2020 – July 2,2024.
- The AG’s office told drivers in our meeting that taxes will not be deducted from the checks.
- The App Drivers Union has been pushing the AG so that the formula used to determine the back pay amounts is fair to drivers who have put the most miles in and invested so much in their vehicles. The ADU doesn’t control how much the checks are for, but we have demanded that this is how the money will be distributed.
- Although we did not negotiate the settlement, ADU is fighting for drivers’ rights under this settlement. For more info contact info @ appdriversunion.org or our hotline at 617-214-2334.Follow us on social media for more updates on the AG Settlement, follow ADU on Tik Tok, Facebook + Instagram.
